The mission of Urban Prep is to provide a comprehensive, high-quality college preparatory education to young men that results in our graduates succeeding in college. The Urban Prep Schools Program includes three public charter schools in the Bronzeville, Englewood, and Near West Side communities. Serving approximately 1100 young men and produce 200 college-bound graduates each year. Urban Prep Charter Academy for Young Men—Englewood Campus is the first public charter high school for boys in the country. Urban Prep's schools are unique because of their positive school culture and rigorous college prep curriculum. Urban Prep students are distinguished by their uniform of khaki pants, black blazer emblazoned with the school crest, and red tie. Urban Prep alumni have set the bar high for graduates to come, as 100% of them have been admitted to college including prestigious institutions like Cornell University, The University of Penn, Georgetown University, Howard University, Morehouse College, North Carolina A&T, The University of Illinois, Hampton University, and The University of Virginia. In addition to these admissions, Urban Prep graduates have received over fifty million dollars in grants and scholarships. Urban Prep Academies is a nonprofit organization founded in 2002 by education entrepreneur Tim King and a group of African-American education, business and civic leaders. Urban Prep's mission is to provide a comprehensive, high-quality college preparatory education to young men that results in graduates succeeding in college.
Our 1st school-Urban Prep Charter Academy for Young Men, Englewood Campus - opened in 2006. Urban Prep's Englewood Campus is the country's first all-boys public charter high school. In 2009, we opened our 2nd school: Urban Prep Academy for Young Men, West. Our 3rd school, Urban Prep Academy for Young Men, Bronzeville, opened its doors in the fall of 2010. Urban Prep's schools are the only all-boys public schools in the state of Illinois.
