St. Luke’s School seeks an experienced full-time teacher to join our Upper School History Department. A successful candidate will join a team of passionate and enthusiastic teachers who bring history to life for students, love teaching and learning, and relish being a joyful presence in the lives of teens.

At this moment, History teachers stand at a critical juncture in educating young people to understand and navigate the political, economic and social contexts in which we all live. We seek a colleague who understands their classroom role as mentor and coach to be every bit as crucial as content expert; who enthusiastically advocates for critical reading, reflection, and research as the tools of responsible students and citizens; and who embraces opportunities for difficult conversations about race, class, gender, sexuality, religious liberty, etc. in and out of the classroom. Candidates with experience teaching interdisciplinary courses, an expertise in a particular region of Global History, and/or a strong interest in the histories of underrepresented communities and identities are strongly encouraged to apply.

**Primary Job Responsibilities: **

  • Teach a full-time course load of Upper School History classes, involving a combination of World History and American History, with the opportunity to develop and teach an elective in a specialized content area.

  • Participate in an after-school activity for three seasons (athletic coaching preferred).

  • Serve as an advisor or co-advisor for a group of 6 to 8 students.

  • Assist with supervisory duties, such as study hall proctoring, lunchroom supervision, and chaperoning events.

**Key Skills and Qualities: **

  • Inspiring, collaborative teacher with a minimum of 5 years classroom teaching experience (or 3 with an advanced degree), who loves working with high school students of all ages and ability levels.

  • Well-established skills in culturally responsive pedagogy.

  • Demonstrated experience and leadership in implementing innovative curriculum and assessment strategies.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Experience using technology creatively and working in a 1:1 laptop environment

  • Growth-oriented professional who embraces a collaborative approach to innovation and creative problem solving

  • Strong cultural competency skills, with demonstrated commitment to furthering an equitable and inclusive school community that supports a strong sense of belonging

  • Interest in and enthusiasm for St. Luke’s brand of leadership education

  • Prior experience with Harkness-based teaching desirable, but not required
