Your First 30 Days of Teaching > Lesson 2 of 7

Mapping The First 30 Days

Description

During the first month, how much time should be allotted to community building, and teaching and reinforcing rules and routines? When and how do you introduce content? We will share a map that outlines exactly what you should focus on each week, differentiating for grade level.

Topics Covered

  • If you teach lower grades or Special Education, only very light content, if any, should be taught before the third week. Plan to spend most of your time building community, establishing rules and practicing routines
  • If you teach upper grades, you will likely have to teach content almost immediately. Plan to teach complex and/or important routines, along with rules, during the first and second weeks, and incorporate community and relationship-building into your curriculum
