Certain systems should be firmly in place before any consequences are given. When consequences are necessary, opt for the least invasive technique. These techniques are equally, if not more effective, and they also strengthen relationships with the students in question.
- Before you consider consequences, think through expectations for student behavior and make sure students have internalized them
- Learn about less invasive techniques such as proximity, silent signal and reinforcing language, and when to use each one
